Summer kits for the homeless
It's high noon, and temperatures are already reaching into the 80's deg F. Before the day is over most areas will be scorching into 90's and over 100 degrees with the heat index. On days like this we might choose to stay inside an air conditioned home or room. If we happen to be out and about, we might find a place to rest and cool off. But for the homeless this is not so likely, especially during COVID-19.
Homelessness in Franklin County rose 5.5% last year, and has been on the rise ( 37.5% ) over the last decade (hudexchange.info, Point-in-Time Estimates by CoC). This was before COVID hit and over 1.1 million Ohioans lost their jobs. COVID-19, makes this especially challenging because many of the places that served as cooling stations during the summer for the homeless, are now closed for indoor seating, or gathering of crowds. This is where we need your help! Maryhaven has continued outreach during this time, providing the homeless with - applications for housing and shelter from the heat - addiction and gambling help - bottled waters and PPE - basic changes of socks and undergarments Will you join us in providing water, PPE, and basic clothing needs to the homeless? Our goal is to provide 50 individuals with one of these kits. Could we get 50 kind souls to reach out with God's love and sponsor a person for just $15? Your gift literally could be the one God uses as a turning point in somebody's life! Give now to help provide hope and housing to the homeless!
